Thomas Zahlten has been a Principal with Ehrlich Architects since 1999 and brings over 29 years of design, management and construction experience to the firm. Born in Germany, Tom moved to Los Angeles in 1975 and the following year, began working in the architecture and construction fields, including his own design-build firm. His pragmatic approach, reflecting decades of construction experience, combined with his technical expertise and on-site problem-solving skills compliment his discerning eye for design.
Tom is the firm's Technical Director, mentoring the associates and designers in the complexities of construction detailing, documentation, and administration. He also serves as Principal-in-Charge for most of the firm's civic and privately-developed projects. Tom is a member of the AIA, Urban Land Institute, International Code Council, National Fire Protection Agency, and the US Green Building Council.
