IVY SUB-STATION THEATRE
The design and implementation of the Ivy Substation Theatre came as a result of prior work with the Center Theatre Group on the nearby Kirk Douglas Theatre. Located in an abandoned power station on a busy thoroughfare in Culver City, CA, the Ivy provides a 100-seat flexible theatre and offices for the Center Theatre Groups' Taper Too! Series, a new play development forum for local actors and playwrights.

The adaptive reuse of the 5,900 sf Ivy was completed in a little over 1 month, with only minor alterations made to the exterior of the building. Inside, portable seating allows various stage and audience configurations while innovative lighting tracks promote flexible theatrical lighting scenarios. A low-cost scaffolding "bar" and off-the-shelf lighting were implemented in the lobby and allow the industrial, casual setting to host catered events and pre- and post-show parties.
