SONY GAMESHOW NETWORK
The Sony Gameshow Network is best characterized as a very low-tech building that has been turbocharged into a very high tech use. The project centered on the transformation of a 1930s-vintage garage into the home for the first all-digital cable network. As part of the 13,000 sf adaptive reuse, a second floor was installed, a large light monitor inserted, a concrete slab replaced with a raised flooring system for computer wiring, and various levels of mechanical systems added to protect against interrupts.
The new network broadcasts 24 hours of game shows each day. A "borderless design" was requested from the Client and allowed the space to become one large, open volume. Additionally, this provided the only solution to incorporating existing bearing walls and inward-turned space.
